Format unallocated drive using computer management

Computer Management enables
administrators to control devices and
services and keep track of hardware and
software performance.
The Disk Management snap- in in Computer
Management displays available storage
devices connected to the PC. Using this you
can initialize, format or partition hard disks,
among other tasks. Businesses often add
additional hard drives to existing
workstations for backup purposes or to
maximize storage space, but before the drive
can be used, the unallocated space on the
device must be formatted.
Step : 1
Click the Windows “Start” button and right-
click
“Computer.” Select “Manage” from the
context menu to open Computer
Management.
Steps : 2
Select “Disk Management” from the left
panel.
Right-click an area of unallocated space on
the drive.
Step : 3
Select “New Simple Volume” from the
context menu to run the New Simple Volume
Wizard. Click “Next.”
Step : 4
Enter the size of the new volume or use the
default value. Click “Next.”
Step : 3
Choose a letter to assign to the drive or use
the default character. Click “Next.”
Step : 6
Select “Format the Volume With the
Following Settings.” Choose the appropriate
parameters for the drive or use the default
values. In most cases you will want to format
using the NTFS format, which is the current
standard for computers running Windows.
Step : 7
Once you select the correct parameters, click
“Next.”
Step : 8
Review your selections on the summary
screen and click “Finish” to format the
unallocated space on the drive.
